Frequently Asked Questions
How do I prepare for my first visit?
It will save time if you:
1. Fill out the patient information forms before you come in. The form can be downloaded here: http://www.holisticmdwendy.com/PatientInfo.pdf.
2. Find out the lab your insurance uses.
3. Bring recent tests or blood work if you think it's important to share. This is not crucial because Dr. Huang will order her own tests any way.
4. Come in 15 minutes early. Traffic is always unpredictable.
What should I expect when I come in for an initial visit?
At your first visit, Dr. Huang will sit down with you and go over a very detailed history (and any test results you'd like to discuss). She will discuss her differential diagnosis about your condition, order holistic lab work through conventional labs like Labcorp or Quest, and propose a treatment plan. (It's useful to know which lab your insurance works with.)
The treatment plan usually includes nutritional education, supplements, lifestyle changes, and sometimes prescription medications if necessary. You will be given a reading list to increase your knowledge about the holistic health approach. Most patients benefited so much from the books that they shared with their friends after reading them. There may be several supplements since Dr. Huang prefers not to use medications, so she uses food and supplements as her medicine.
What should I expect after the first visit?
Dr. Huang will usually ask you to start your supplements right after the lab tests are taken so your body can begin healing. You can make a follow-up appointment two weeks after the tests are done. You do not have to call to check whether Dr. Huang has the lab results. Dr. Huang has her computer connected directly to the Quest and Labcorp databases, so she will have results as soon as the tests are done. Regular lab tests will be done within 10-14 days, so she will always have lab results in 2 weeks.
The most important thing is to incorporate all the nutritional and lifestyle changes she suggested and take the supplements as directed. If patients follow their program seriously, they may feel somewhat better when they come in for follow-up.
The first follow-up visit will be very interesting and informative when Dr. Huang goes over the results with you in depth. You will understand the difference between the normal range and the optimal range. Patients will understand the root of their conditions, and Dr. Huang will outline the future treatment plans and frequency of your visits.
